The Montelucia Resort & Spa
InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa features a distinct ambience influenced by the architecture and lifestyle of Andalusia in southern Spain. With a rich cultural history and influence from Roman, Greek and Moorish occupation, Andalusia lends a soulful and distinct flavor to the colors, architecture and décor of the luxury resort and spa.
The impeccable attention-to-detail that sets the resort apart is found in the Alhambra walkway modeled after the Alhambra in Granada, Spain, the signature restaurant inspired by Michelangelo’s Villa San Michele in Tuscany, the wedding chapel representative of the ballroom at Hotel Cipriani in Venice, and in every sun-dappled courtyard and tucked-away antiquity sourced from Spain.
Accommodations
From richly-hued fabrics to dark woods and light stones throughout, the 293 guest rooms and suites are an idyllic mix of modern comforts and authentic hand-crafted architectural and design details. All guestrooms offer views of the sparkling pools or Camelback mountain, or open onto private garden patios. The floor plans are designed to promote intimacy and relaxation with private patios and indoor sitting areas as well as a dining table that allows guests to enjoy elegant dining in-room. Custom fabrics, décor and furniture indicative of the color and style of authentic Andalusia combine with modern amenities like flat-screen TV’s and an iPod docking station and luxurious and sensual features like sunken bathtubs and walk-in, sprawling stone showers with dual showerheads.
Dining
In keeping with the resort as a whole, dining experiences and décor are inspired by the flavor and soul of Andalusia, Spain while at the same time showcasing fresh, healthful ingredients, wine and cocktails designed to soothe away the stress of the world.
The resort offers a signature restaurant and bar, the spa bistro, the pool bar and grill, the café, in-room dining and the most elegant weddings, corporate meetings, galas and event catering.
Weddings
Whether it’s for six or six hundred guests, InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa offers perfect choices for setting the scene for the idyllic wedding celebration. Awards & Accolades
Departures “This Moroccan-inspired spa at the first InterContinental resort to open in the United States offers an 850-square-foot treatment room called the Palace Suite. Perfect for couples, it features a king-size daybed, a fireplace, a lavish bathroom, an outdoor shower, and a private terrace overlooking the dramatic Sonoran desert and Camelback Mountain.”
Newsweek (December 2008)
“In tough economic times, Americans need to relax – and for one route to nirvana, may we suggest the Hammam ritual followed by a Joyambrosia massage at the New Joya Spa in Paradise Valley, Ariz. The treatment begins with a catnap on a heated platform, followed by a black-soap body cleansing. Then the steam room, a deluge of freezing water, a Spanish whirlpool and sauna, and finally a 90-minute massage.Estates West (December 2008)
“One of the highlights of the resort is the Moroccan-inspired Joya Spa, conceived by Sylvia Sepielli. One of my favorite features is a circular, soothing room with a twinkling ceiling that mimics the night sky. The treatment suites were also stunning, with a king-size daybed, sunken tubs and fireplaces. The spa also houses a salon, Joya Bazaar, where spa-goers can pick up clothing and other luxury trinkets, and Joya Spa Terrace & Juice Bar. There, you can get healthful cuisine, as well as indulgent goodies like cupcakes, burgers and sangria. The spa is all about pampering, anyway, right?”
Resorts Magazine
“The Joya Spa at InterContinental Montelucia is scheduled to open this year. When it does, it will be one of the largest and most elaborate in the region, with over 30,000 square feet of spa, spread throughout a brand new, state-of-the-art facility. Visitors enter under Moroccan-inspired archways, an architectural feature that is repeated throughout rooms, hallways, and the entire community. Of the 19 treatment rooms, five are couples suites, offering private whirlpool baths and outdoor showers, and one – the Palace Suite – is an expansive 850-square-foot luxury suite overlooking the Camelback. A hi-tech fitness centre with more than 40 different pieces compliments the full menu of salon and spa treatments, along with fitness classes.”
The Arizona Republic: Yes (July 2008)
“For an exceptional experience you won’t find elsewhere in the Valley, try Joya’s modern take on hammam, a cleansing and relaxation ritual. This 15-minute add-on to any treatment includes a scrub with Moroccan black soap and oils, then a few minutes in a steam room followed by a brief, cold deluge shower.”
New York Times Magazine (September 2008)
“The expansive InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa Paradise Valley doesn’t just offer yoga classes. Experience true serenity at a private outdoor yoga session with a world-renowned instructor as the sun rises over the red rocks of Camelback Mountain. Then, follow it up with a private gourmet spa breakfast and tea service on the spa’s rooftop deck.”
