Dermalogica selects only the finest ingredients available from eco-safe sources and packages them in recyclable containers. The products are non-comedogenic and are free of occlusive mineral oil, lanolin, S.D. alcohol, formaldehyde and irritating artificial colors or fragrance. Key ingredients include natural essential oils and extracts, naturally purifying and calming agents such as Green Clays, Balm Mint, and exfoliating Rice Bran, Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid and fruit enzymes. Dermalogica products are not tested on animals.

Dermalogica was founded in 1986, in response to the International Dermal Institute's curriculum. During her training and instruction of new skin care therapists, Jane Wurwand, a British skin care therapist, realized that there was an unmet need in the skin care product market. Her vision was clear: create a product line which was free of the common irritants which ultimately led to skin sensitization, and which was selected and recommended by a professional skin care therapist with the same care that a physician would prescribe medication. This meant eliminating mineral oil, S.D. alcohol, artificial colors, artificial fragrances, lanolin, and formaldehyde - all accepted staple ingredients in many leading brands at the time. Jane partnered with a highly talented chemist and the initial formulations were created to her exacting standards. A few products were developed initially - Dermal Clay Cleanser, Active Moist, Skin Smoothing Cream, Special Cleansing Gel, Multi Active Toner - and the Dermalogica brand was born. The brand's best-sellers are among this now-classic group of cleansers, toners and moisturizers.

Today, Dermalogica offers products to meet the vast array of skin care essentials. Dermalogica product has no mineral oil and dermalogica uses lightweight, natural vegetable oils as alternative emollients and has no lanolin - Dermalogica uses aromatic essential oils and silk proteins as moisturizing agents. - Dermalogica does not use artificial color, fragrances and are non-comedogenic.

Drawbacks of Dermalogica Skin Care Products

The products do not necessarily address aging or skin tone.  

Bottom Line:

For me, being over 50, Dermalogica has not been able to address my concerns as effectively as other products.  However, they do have some quality products and work well for younger skin.  It is easily accessible in many spas and the face mapping makes it easy to determine the products that are right for you.  Find a Dermalogica spa near you.
