Go Green May Mean Going Backwards

Kermit the frog sang about how hard it is to be green.  It doesn’t have to be.  Cautious yes, as you try to incorporate new products into your life.  However, for me it is doing the things that we did when I was a child.  We dried clothing out on the clothes line as opposed to using the dryer; we cleaned with vinegar and baking soda.  When it came to beverages, we drank filtered tap water.  When we went out we brought our water in a thermos. It seems that we may need to go back to glass reusable bottles for water and soda.  As a child I can remember bringing the glass bottles back to the store to get my five cents for the bottle.  Even milk was in glass reusable bottles that the milk man picked back up.

Then there are some new products that I love like micro fiber towels for cleaning.  They are fabulous, absorbent and do a great job.  I would not clean the house without my professional steam machine.  It was worth the investment.  It cleans windows, bathrooms, counter tops, ovens, you name it and it cleans it with hot steam.  It cleans and sanitizes.

Going green just means keep it simple.  You do not need all of the “new green” products, you just need to go back to your roots.  Well, my grandmother had a wash board and wringer in her basement.  Umm that may be going too far back.  I am tired just thinking about doing laundry that way.

Just start out small, use a glass water bottle, sanitize and reuse it.  Change your light bulbs and choose the products you purchase with care.  Besides that, head to the spa and relax this week.  For more information on going green you may want to take a look at Oprah’s Going Green 101: Resources for Your Family.
