Grape Glow For Skin

So how do grapes give your skin a smooth, healthy glow?

Free radicals are unstable oxygen molecules that damage skin cells, leading to wrinkles and other signs of aging. Antioxidants, such as vitamins A, E, and C, actively fight these molecular rogues.

Grapes extracts are powerful antioxidants. Proanthocyanidins (the primary polyphenol in Grape Seed and Grape Skin Extracts), are approximately 50 times greater than Vitamin C and 20 times greater than Vitamin E.

Two main components are oligometric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) and resveratrol.

OPCs are antioxidants that fight harmful free radicals, protecting from collagen loss and skin breakdown. In addition, they also keep blood vessels strong, allowing blood circulation to deliver beneficial nutrients to skin. These nutrients aid in repairing skin cell damage, writes dermatologist Nicholas Perricone, M.D., in his book, The Clear Skin Prescription: The Perricone Program to Eliminate Problem Skin.

Resveratrol is another antioxidant found in grapes and wine. Some research suggests it shields against skin cancer.

ccording to one study, resveratrol defends skin cells from skin cancer following exposure to UVB rays by lowering survivin (which controls cell division), reports Science Daily.

So, what?s so important about survivin? It's actually "overexpressed in most human cancers, but absent in normal adult tissues," reports the article, "and is considered a promising therapeutic target for novel anticancer therapies."

Additional benefits from Grape Seed Extracts are:

  • Grape extracts are anti-inflammatory and have been shown in laboratory studies to be anti-carcinogenic.
  • Grape Extracts can play an important role in protection of the brain against neurodegenerative conditions

Grape Extracts may be useful as part of a weight management system, since they increase muscle toning, by increasing the ratio of lean muscle versus fat.
