Celebrate the 4th by Relaxing in the Water!
Are you going to be barbecuing at the beach, at the lake or in your own backyard by the pool? These types of activities help us to celebrate the 4th of July. We celebrate the freedoms we enjoy in the United States. This year, what better way to celebrate freedom then with the true freedom you experience at a spa. This 4th of July, let’s celebrate by going back to the origins and true meaning or acronym for SPA, “Sanus Per Aquam” meaning health by or through water. How about having a Watsu® treatment? Or going to a spa that is known for water?

Ayurveda the Natural Way to Cleanse the Body
Ayurveda is a pure holistic treatment in sync with nature. It focuses on health and not disease. It specifically takes into account the patient's entire individuality. Finding a balance in each person’s body, mind and spirit is the key to wellness. Ayurveda is an ancient system of health care, principal to the Indian sub-continent. The word "Ayurveda" is an amalgam of the word ayus meaning "life" and the word veda, which refers to a method of "knowledge". Therefore "Ayurveda" more or less translates as the "knowledge of life". Ayurveda is a system that helps maintain wellbeing in a person by using the intrinsic principles of nature. In essence Ayurveda has been successfully used for prevention and healing for over 5000 years.

Since at least as far back as December 2005, potential husbands and wives have been snapping up spots to be married on a popular special day. This year there the date that tops all of them is July 7, 2007 or 777. The triple seven date has been booked for months.

Spavelous Sunless Summertime Tans
As my summertime vacation approached and I put on my bathing suit for the first time this season it became painfully obvious how porcelain white my skin has become over the winter. Now, is the time to work on what I like to call the two T’s of summer. Yes, it is time to work on toning and tanning. For me, the toning part is easy I simply use my chi machine and vibrational therapy machine once a day for 10 to 15 minutes. I like to keep it simple. With the help of spas the tanning can be just as easy.

How Green Are You and Your Spa?
The only Green in spas used to be the color of your face mask or seaweed body wrap. Now, that is all changing as many spas make a concerted effort to impart “green” strategies to help conserve the earth’s rapidly dwindling resources. These strategies include building with environmentally friendly materials; conserving energy with solar lighting; implementing water reclamation areas and using organic product lines as well as installing non-chemically treated carpeting and furniture. As well as using non chemical cleaning products. Everyone likes a clean home, but few of us like the chore of cleaning. Even worse, we often rely on a cocktail of hazardous substances to make our bathrooms sparkle or our floors shine. The very cleaners that help us pick up dirt and dust; irritate our skin, eyes, and lungs. They can also leave toxic residues or pollute the water when we rinse them down the drain. But keeping our homes clean and avoiding toxic cleaners don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Sandals, Seashells and Sand Are Summertime Spa Favorites
Springtime is the right time to start getting your feet into Spavelous condition for the summer. Sandal season is just around the corner, nothing can ruin the look of your trendy little sandals and sexy open toed shoes then the appearance of rough cracked heels, corns and over grown toe nails. Regardless of the cost of your sandals, nothing quite shows your success more then feet that look like a million bucks. Several Spas are giving your feet that Spavelous Summertime looks by taking your feet and your body to the beach. Historically, the Mayans considered seashells to be a transmitter of positive energy. Sea shells services are big for 2007.

Keep Skin Cancer Away This Summer
May is Melanoma and Skin Cancer detection and prevention month, which means it's time to see your doctor or dermatologist for your annual screening. Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers - and the most preventable. Thanks to my aesthetician who does my monthly facials, my small skin cancer was identified early and removed. Your spa service providers may be the best person to check your face and body each month. Your aesthetician will notice if you have any irregular skin on your face, and your massage therapist can keep a check on those moles on your back. Of course, they are not qualified to diagnose and treat, but they do see your skin on a regular basis and they can notify you when you should get it checked out further.

Spa Week
Headed by Christina Castro and Cheryl Reid Spa Week was created out of the belief that “stress is omnipresent. From anxiety to work to family, it is a non-discriminating byproduct of the world we live in. So when the opportunity to alleviate some of that surmounting tension is offered, the spa experience becomes not just a pampering whimsy for the privileged but an integral part of a healthy lifestyle.”

Getaway for a day…
Everyone who has ever escaped to a day spa knows just how quickly an hour can fly by. For this reason, I prefer to enjoy a minimum of 2 one-hour services or at least a 90 minute massage or body treatment. 90 minute treatment will do a better job of stimulating your parasympathetic system. This means that you will achieve a deeper sense of relaxation and feeling of well being. During massage therapy, your parasympathetic nervous system is activated. Activating the Parasympathetic nervous system allows the body to rejuvenate and restore its balance while it assists the lymphatic system to cleanse the metabolic waste that accumulates in the muscle tissues. This gives the body a chance to de-stress on the physical level. |
