Spa Treatments – Healing Cancer With Alternatives

March 4th, 2009

Alternative Cancer Spa Treatments Show Promise

For most of us a cancer diagnosis conjures up images of sterile white hallways, doctors’ long faces, bouts of constant pain, and hours of uninterrupted bed rest. In the past “alternative” treatments for something as large and daunting as cancer were akin to voodoo practices, as varied and unpredictably bogus as going to a palm reader in a strip mall. Now a new practice of healing the cancer patient—not just the tumors—is gaining popularity, although it has been around for almost 25 years.

Bryomixol is an integrative treatment of cancer through a natural product line that is oftentimes used in conjunction with traditional Western methods in order to ensure the stability and well-being of the patient. Developed in Germany decades ago, the formula behind what is now Bryomixol has been used extensively throughout Germany as a natural preventative tool for cancer and other maladies.

The formula was transformed into Bryomixol in South America by Dr. Cesar E. Bertacchini, the current owner and president of the company that finds and manufactures the non-toxic substances that are distributed to his patients. Bertacchini has been treating patients in El Salvador for over twenty years with great success in quelling pain, boosting self-esteem, and calming nerves.

Dr. Fernando Basail, a board certified doctor practicing in the United States, left his full-time medical roots to join Dr. Bertacchini’s cause in El Salvador in order to help members of his own family fight cancer. Although the program takes place outside the United States, all of the equipment and techniques are completely modernized. The treatment is considered holistic but it does not abandon the safety procedures and structure found in conventional medicine.

The herbs and formulas mixed with mineral content are not to be confused with popular over-the-counter supplements. The Bryomixol treatment uses non-toxic and all-natural substances from all over the world in order to help the immune system fight off cancer cells. When cancer settles in your body it disables Natural Killer (NK) cells which are responsible for the fight from your immune system. The blend of natural components is put into the body to reactivate NK cells by re-stimulating the immune system. Essentially, Bryomixol is teaching the body to fight against the cancer by waking up its sleeping soldiers.

The program—as the staff calls it—is more than concentrated herbs. The most important part of the program is to learn about the patient as a whole. Healing with Bryomixol also takes place outside the hospital. Staff members and 24-hour assistants (if necessary) encourage trips to the ocean and outdoor activities like hiking the nearby volcano or merely just sitting outside to absorb the electromagnetic activity of the earth and taking in the serenity of the scenery.

Stressing the individuality of the treatment, the doctors consult with each patient to figure out the best course of action. Dr. Basail stresses that each person’s treatment is different because every person’s cancer is different. Affliction not only affects the body, but the mind and the soul as well. If the doctors are able to pin down just what the patient’s fears and emotions are at any stage of the disease, they are able to better exact the best path to walk them down.

Personal time is important for the specialists because they have all had someone close to them affected by cancer. Every day of the usual ten, the doctor sits with the patient for two and a half hours of treatments, instead of most doctors’ usual pattern of jumping from patient to patient as participating in a relay race.

The feel-better approach to medicine uses psychiatric consults as well as comfortable spa environments in order to calm the patient and get to the root of their emotional pain as well as physical pain. Similar to Ayurvedic and Chinese medicines, a treatment of all three components: mind, body, and soul is integral to its success. With close to an 80 percent success rate for patients being cancer-free for at least five years, Dr. Basail considers that incredible because most of the patients treated turn to Bryomixol because they have exhausted all other options.

Dr. Basail says that five countries in South America have already approved the process—which is comparable our Federal Drug Administration (FDA)—and Bryomixol is close to getting FDA approval in the United States. Although a treatment center in the United States may make people feel more at ease and be better financially, the El Salvador clinic seems to give people the feel of a vacation rather than a medical trip.

By “treating the patient not the tumor” Bryomixol prides itself on its personal treatment and respect. One patient, a young woman working as a nurse in America, recently went through breast cancer treatment and brought her husband and kids along with her to South America. After the “opportunity fell in my lap,” she continued to say the treatment center became another home throughout the ten-day program, “I met some of my best friends there. I’ve become part of their family and I call them my second family. The professionalism I experienced [in El Salvador] compared to what you get in the States doesn’t compare. I didn’t once feel like a number.”

It is important to remember that Bryomixol is an integrative process meaning that it can be used alongside the traditional radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery but it can also stand alone because of its miraculous way of using the body’s own immune system to heal itself.

Balance your Life – Romantic Spa Weekend Getaway

February 28th, 2009

relaxing-bathFEW things in this world are better than a spa weekend. Think of it — mineral baths, deep massages, delicious food — and then think what a great gift it would be for your spouse or partner.

Perhaps something like the two-night Spectacular Spa Getaway at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, N.Y.: all meals, afternoon tea, an 80-minute massage, use of steam rooms and saunas, yoga or other classes, guided nature walks or hikes, ice-skating and other activities. Rates begin at $609 a person for the two nights, double occupancy.

Yet a possibly even more memorable spa weekend for your spouse or partner could be at your own second home. You may not be able to mimic the architecture or the romantic location of Mohonk, but you can create your own little spa focused on one very important client.

Here’s what you need to do:

DINING Lay in a supply of easy-to-prepare “luxury” foods, maybe a couple of lobsters, a pound of crabmeat for salads, smoked salmon, good breads, cheeses, chocolates and Champagne (but have something less expensive, like prosecco, to mix with orange juice for those essential Sunday morning mimosas). Set the table with new cloth napkins. If you don’t have flutes, buy them.

AMBIENCE If there’s a fireplace, have starter logs and plenty of wood. Put on some spa music, whatever you think your partner would like, but not too loud. And don’t forget candles; votives in glass cups save you from having to clean up wax drips. Verbena, lavender and almond are more spalike than spice scents.

AMENITIES If the towels and other linens at your second home are, well, seconds, upgrade. Pick up a couple of bath sheets (very large terry-cloth bath towels) and other rich-feeling towels and washcloths at a discounter like Marshalls. Don’t forget new sheets and pillowcases. If you’re not going to spring for silk, at least get cotton with a high thread count. A new bathrobe and slippers would be good, too.

YOGA Set aside time for yoga or some other exercise. It will make everything that comes afterward, especially the massage, better. Look for yoga instructional Yoga For BeginnersPremium Skidless Yoga Mat – Purple
and other supplies.

BATHING Give your partner a relaxing bath. Scented bath salts double the pleasure, combining aromatherapy with the stress-relief effect of salt. Rosemary Mint Zen Bath Salt is $11.95 for 16 ounces at the San Francisco Bath Salt Company.

MASSAGE If you’ve had a professional massage, you know how good it can feel. You want your partner to feel that good, too, so you need to know some techniques. There is instruction at www.wonderhowto.com (click on diet and health), and at www.videojug.com and www.metacafe.com (search for massage).

Or look for The Massage Book: 25th Anniversary Edition , originally published in 1972 and now out in a 25th-anniversary edition. You’re also likely to find a bunch of books on sensual massage. Massage can be done on a mat or a bed, but it’s best on a OneTouch Elite Series Portable Massage Table Luxury Pad Teal 4S , along with massage oils.

SKIN TREATMENTS Exfoliation is really little more than a good scrubbing, usually with an abrasive cloth or sponge or a soluble material like
The All NEW Seacret Ocean Sea Salt Scrub – 24oz
. A variety of products to cleanse, detoxify, moisturize and otherwise make one’s skin feel and/or look great are available at any drugstore. Some may not be recommended for right after a salt scrub, so be sure to read the labels.

That’s it. You arrive Friday evening, dine on chilled lobster and Champagne and sleep between new sheets. Saturday starts with a light breakfast, maybe a walk outside, then yoga, a long soak in the tub, a massage and perhaps a salt scrub.

On Sunday, when the spa weekend ends, accept your partner’s thanks gracefully — and point out that next time it’s your turn to get the spa treatment.

Winter Tips from The Evensong Spa

Stay Healthy this Winter
It’s that time of year when coughing, sore throats, and sneezing seem abundant in offices and homes. It’s important to strengthen your body’s defenses against illness. Follow these important tips to stay healthy this winter.

Manage your stress. You can’t control everything in your life – a job loss, a loved one’s death – but you can change how you react to unpleasant events. Relieve tension through meditation, yoga or tai chi, which all have been known to boost the immune system.

Eat well. Without a nourishing diet, your body is more vulnerable to infections. During the cold and flu seasons, reach for dark fruits and berries, particularly blueberries and raspberries, which seem to have immunity-boosting effects.

Get moving. Getting regular exercise helps your body avoid succumbing to illness in times of stress. 30 minutes of daily physical activity is ideal. Try biking, walking and even cleaning.

Sleep! A normal sleep cycle is vitally important for the immune system. Aim for 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night.

Understanding Ayurvedic Spa Treatments – A Brief Overview

Pampering ayurvedic spa treatments are an individualized way to realize your full beauty and potential.  Ayurveda is the an ancient holistic art that began in India and is one of the oldest bodies of information about healing.  Also known as the “Science of Life” this natural medicine was first described in around 3,500 BC and promotes a balance life in harmony physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally.

Ayurveda focuses on three energies within each of us, which are called doshas.  The three doshas, called Pitta, Vata and Kapha, are related to the five universal elements of space, earth, water, air and fire.  As our health, stress levels and circumstances in life change, our doshas fluctuate and may become unbalanced.  Ayurvedic spa techniques combine aromatherapy and massage with fine essential oils and herbal powders.  Various massage techniques and aromas are used to create a better level of balance of your doshas.  Body massage, facial massage, foot massage and marma point massage are some of the Ayurvedic spa treatments that give you a feeling of relaxation that you have never had before.

The holistic art of ayurveda can ease pain, relieve stress and even help chronic rheumatoid discomfort and offers a myriad of health benefits.  Try a beautifying, holistic ayurvedic spa treatment to look and feel great today.

Balancing Your Life

Figure Out What Really Matters to You in Life

Personal coach Laura Berman Fortgang, author of NOW WHAT? 90 Days to a New Life Direction, says getting your priorities clear is the first and most essential step toward achieving a well-balanced life. The important point here is to figure out what you want your priorities to be, not what you think they should be.

“I use an exercise for figuring out what matters most,” Fortgang tells WebMD. She has her clients take a couple days off from work to contemplate the following series of questions:
1. If my life could focus on one thing and one thing only, what would that be?
2. If I could add a second thing, what would that be?
3. A third?
4. A fourth?
5. A fifth?
If you answer thoughtfully and honestly, the result will be a list of your top five priorities. Fortgang says a typical top-five list might include aspects such as children, spouse, satisfying career, community service, religion or spirituality, health, sports, art, hobbies such as gardening and adventure/travel.

Ismael Al-Ramahi, a graduate student at Baylor College of Medicine, says his current priorities are his wife, his 4-month-old son, and his research. He tells WebMD the key is not only knowing your priorities, but devoting your full attention to just one priority at a time. “Split your time and your mind so that you’re thinking about work when you’re at work and you’re paying attention to the baby when you’re with him.”

Drop Unnecessary Activities
By making a concrete list of what really matters to you, you may discover you’re devoting too much time to activities that aren’t a priority, and you can adjust your schedule accordingly. Since having a baby, Al-Ramahi says he and his wife have become much more efficient in managing their time—cutting back on television, for example.

If at all possible, Fortgang recommends dropping any commitments and pursuits that don’t make your top-five list, because “unnecessary activities keep you away from the things that matter to you.”

Protect Your Private Time
You would probably think twice before skipping out on work, a parent-teacher conference, or a doctor’s appointment. Your private time deserves the same respect. “Carve out hours that contribute to yourself and your relationship,” says Stevan Hobfoll, PhD, distinguished professor of psychology at Kent State University, and co-author of Work Won’t Love You Back: The Dual Career Couple’s Survival Guide. Guard this personal time fervently and don’t let work or other distractions intrude. “Stop checking email and cell phones so often,” Hobfoll advises. “Few people are so important that they need their phones on at all times.”

If work consistently interferes with your personal time, Hobfoll recommends discussing some adjustments with your boss. “There’s a mythology in the workplace that more hours means more,” he tells WebMD. Demonstrate that you can deliver the same or better results in fewer hours. Your job performance “should never be judged in terms of hours of input,” Hobfoll says. Protecting your private time often leads to “greater satisfaction in both work life and personal life, greater productivity, and more creativity.”

If you’re your own boss, it’s up to you to create boundaries that keep work from intruding on family time. Lachlan Brown is president of Tech for People, a small business consulting firm specializing in Internet marketing. “I make it very clear at the beginning of any new business relationship that if I work nights and/or weekends then this is purely by choice,” he tells WebMD. “I’ve told clients more than once that if they call me at night or on the weekend that they shouldn’t expect me to a) answer the phone and b) reply until the next business day.”

Brown, who has a 9-month-old daughter, doesn’t see his reluctance to work after hours as compromising his career but quite the opposite. “I believe that if I truly honor the different aspects of my life, such as work, play, and family, I will be more successful and fulfilled in each area. If I skimp on family time or ‘me’ time, then my success in my career will suffer as a result. I look to my daughter to remind me of how to be open-minded and excited and curious about life … key ingredients for innovative, breakthrough thinking. If I don’t spend time with her now, this opportunity will be lost forever.”

Accept Help to Balance Your Life
Allow yourself to rely on your partner, family members, or friends—anyone who can watch the kids or run an errand while you focus on other top priorities. “Try tag-teaming,” Hobfoll suggests. “One spouse works out before dinner, one after dinner, while the other watches the kids.”

To get more alone-time with your partner, accept babysitting offers from friends and family, or try arranging a regular trade-off with another couple. “‘I’ll watch your kids this Saturday if you watch mine next Saturday.’ Tag-teaming is a great way to create extra free time,” Hobfoll says.

Plan Fun and Relaxation
Fun and relaxation are an essential part of living a well-balanced life. That’s why Brown makes time for weekly guitar lessons, a yoga class, a date night with his wife, and a guys’ night out a couple times a month. In addition, he exercises on a trampoline in his backyard most days of the week. How does he squeeze in all this playtime while running his business and sharing the responsibilities of raising a daughter? “If you believe that the most important thing is to be happy in life (not when I’m a millionaire or when I retire but right now) then you can always make time.”

Until you get into the habit of taking time for yourself, set aside space in your planner for relaxation and fun. Plan what you’re going to do and make any necessary arrangements, such as childcare, to ensure you’ll be able to keep your commitment. “Remember, you make time for what you want to make time for,” Fortgang says. If something is important to you, don’t brush it aside with a dismissive “I don’t have time for that.” You are in charge of your own schedule—it’s up to you to make time.
