Medical Spa Peel Deals – Look Younger

November 7th, 2008

The peel deal

It’s the ultimate skin-damage do-over: a skin treatment that sloughs away the visible signs of sun exposure and aging in a lunchtime appointment. But can you really undo months — or years — of wear and tear in an hour?

If you’re already regretting some of the sun exposure you got during the last few months, you’re not alone.

As the glow fades and leaves behind those not-so-beautiful signs of summer — uneven pigment, splotches and a few new, fine lines — many women start looking for a way to erase their seasonal skin sins.

That is why the facial peel becomes one of the most requested skin-care treatments around town at this time every year: “The demand is crazy in the fall and winter months,” says Dr. Tami Cassis, a clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine who’s also in private practice in Louisville.

Demand is especially high for the quick, no-side-effect, superficial peels — dubbed “lunchtime peels” because the theory is that you can have them on your lunch hour and get right back to your life.

These potent, in-office exfoliating treatments can effectively minimize or remove fine lines, uneven skin tone and minor textural problems. They may have real medical benefits beyond the cosmetic ones, too; they can also remove early patches of scaly skin that can become actinic keratoses (lesions that may be precursors for skin cancer).
In other words, they can be the perfect antidote to post-summer skin.

“My patients love lunchtime peels because there is absolutely no downtime, and they do see an improvement in clarity and texture almost immediately,” says Abbey Helton, a registered nurse and certified plastic surgery nurse for Louisville cosmetic surgeon Dr. Joseph Banis.

That said, not all peels are created equal. So before you dash off to your nearest salon or medispa, here’s what you should know about the newest versions available around town.

Seasonal Spa Facial Peels Yam & Pumpkin Peels

November 6th, 2008

Pumpkin_Peel_Facial.png

Treatment: the organic yam and pumpkin peel

What it does: This 98 percent-organic peel reduces fine lines and wrinkles and infuses the skin with active vitamins and bioflavonoids. (Bioflavonoids give color to vegetables, fruits and flowers; they have been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antiviral and anti-cancer properties.)

This peel is especially effective for hydrating and plumping the skin and refining skin tone, but it can also reduce uneven pigmentation and roughness. It is designed to leave the skin with a radiant glow and to”rev up” skin tone before a special event. “This is a real glow-getter,” says Oksana Kalchanka, an aesthetician at Tranquility Spa & Salon, “and is especially popular before weddings and reunions. A series of weekly treatments one month beforehand ensures clients a luminous, radiant, younger-looking complexion.”

Treatment: the Vitalize Peel

What it does: The Vitalize Peel is a new-this-year alpha hydroxyl-and-retinoic acid blend that can yield dramatic exfoliating results. It is especially effective in treating clogged pores, severe acne and more advanced signs of aging, such as thickened skin, uneven pigment and fine lines.

What you really need to know: The Vitalize Peel is a mixture of alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, resorcinol and retinoic acid that is suitable for all skin tones and complexions. The combination of acids causes chemical exfoliation of the outer layer of skin. The retinoic acid also stimulates collagen production, designed to result in a smoother, more vibrant complexion.

The Vitalize Peel — fast becoming a favorite rejuvenating method — is often combined with other procedures, like Read more…

Brahus Pasadena California Spa – Brows the eyes have it

October 20th, 2008

Great_Brow.png

Brauhaus: Form Follows Function

A new brow-shaping hot spot has popped up in Pasadena. Brauhaus is located in a sleek mid-century modern space off of one of Old Town’s charming brick alleys. The name “Brauhaus” is more than just a cute play on words; the salon’s work is inspired by the Bauhaus principle of design “form follows function.” In other words, their artists shape eyebrows while maintaining their natural arch. (No Cruella De Vils here.)

To say Brauhaus founder and superstar brow sculptor Zoey Van Jones is a master of her craft is an understatement. We thought we’d just have our eyebrows cleaned up and shaped, but she included a slight tint as well to better match our recently colored hair. She also started with sketches and a detailed explanation of how to get our brows to look their best. Zoey is a proponent of fuller brows (more youthful and natural-looking than the overly arched brows that so many of us seem to fall victim too). She pointed out the areas where we’d been over-plucking for over a decade, and drew a sketch of the boxier shape that we should be aiming for. Finally, she waxed, tweezed and trimmed, finishing up with the application of eye-brightening makeup, some well matched shadow to fill in the areas that still needed to grow in more fully (our “homework”) and some shaping brow gel. We were amazed at how Zoey’s work transformed the whole face, and made a vow to stop butchering our brows at home.

Micro Peel benefits Does It Work

October 6th, 2008

Treatment: the MicroPeel

What it does: The MicroPeel — introduced in 1991 by the BioMedic skin-care company — is one of the original lunchtime peels and still the gold standard for such procedures. This noninvasive peel is designed to improve clarity and reduce fine lines, uneven texture and pigmentation problems. A more aggressive version, the MicroPeel Plus, can remove deeper pigmentation problems as well as acne scarring.

What you really need to know: The MicroPeel is a three-step procedure that begins with “dermaplaning” — removing the top layer of skin with a surgical blade. Next, an alpha hydroxy acid is applied to the skin, creating a mild tingling sensation and freeing the pores of impacted debris. After the surface skin is treated, the solution is neutralized. The final step is a skin-freezing process called cryogenic therapy.

A mist of cold, liquid carbon dioxide is applied to the face in Read more…

Understanding Ayurvedic Spa Treatments – A Brief Overview

Pampering ayurvedic spa treatments are an individualized way to realize your full beauty and potential.  Ayurveda is the an ancient holistic art that began in India and is one of the oldest bodies of information about healing.  Also known as the “Science of Life” this natural medicine was first described in around 3,500 BC and promotes a balance life in harmony physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally.

Ayurveda focuses on three energies within each of us, which are called doshas.  The three doshas, called Pitta, Vata and Kapha, are related to the five universal elements of space, earth, water, air and fire.  As our health, stress levels and circumstances in life change, our doshas fluctuate and may become unbalanced.  Ayurvedic spa techniques combine aromatherapy and massage with fine essential oils and herbal powders.  Various massage techniques and aromas are used to create a better level of balance of your doshas.  Body massage, facial massage, foot massage and marma point massage are some of the Ayurvedic spa treatments that give you a feeling of relaxation that you have never had before.

The holistic art of ayurveda can ease pain, relieve stress and even help chronic rheumatoid discomfort and offers a myriad of health benefits.  Try a beautifying, holistic ayurvedic spa treatment to look and feel great today.

The mud bath also offers numerous health benefits.

The mud bath treatment is more effective than any other spa treatments. It provides great relaxation from day to day stress and offers a unique experience. It grants warm feeling of being covered with a shelter of soft mud. The warm temperature helps to cleanse the dirt in the skin leaving it soft and supple. The natural ingredients in mud bath help to get rid of muscular pain and joint pains.

The most important reason for why mud bath is a famous spa treatment is that it does not contain any harmful chemicals. Hence, it does not cause any allergic reactions. However, people who are suffering from asthma need to consult their physician before getting this treatment. The mud bath treatment is even able to remove toxins from the body. Since the harmful substances are removed from your body, you are able to feel entirely refreshed.

It has skin detoxification properties and so it removes all harmful toxins from the skin. Since it absorbs more water, it retains the hydration in the skin and makes it soft. It induces the skin to absorb the essential nutrients in the mud.

The quality mud bath is used for both health and cosmetic purposes. It shows significant improvement in curing rheumatoid arthritis. It also helps to treat various skin diseases. Hence, it is the most required day spa treatment nowadays.

Mud specially prepared by utilizing rich bio minerals has anti-inflammatory properties and so it is able to decrease inflammation. The users therefore experience great relief from irritation, swelling or minor skin problems. It also helps to reduce muscular pains and stress. It has the capacity to treat dry skin conditions. The balanced mixture of bio minerals in the mud helps to improve blood circulation and thereby treats various health problems.

Mud bath is the simplest method of rejuvenating the entire body. Hence, many spa centers provide luxurious rooms where experts help the clients to get a mud bath. The mud treatments are prepared exclusively for each client and so the sanitation is preserved well in spas.
