Setai-Spa

Drawing upon ancient Sanskrit traditions of natural healing, The Setai Spa, New York Spa devotes extraordinary space to your fitness comfort and well being.

Setai’s spa treatments open the door to a world dedicated to the restoration and realignment of the body and the spirit. The exclusive, specially designed suites celebrate the personalization of our treatments. Each suite has ocean and pool views, a private bath and steam room. With room for up to two people to enjoy special treatments in tandem, we are able to craft a unique spa experience for you.

This spa is to create a comprehensive experience by triggering the five senses: sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste. It incorporates not only glass tile, wood and stone, for their visual and tactile appeal, but also waterfalls, which create a pleasing sound cascading into relaxation pools. To address the senses of taste and smell, guests are served warm drinks between treatments.

Elaia spa open at the Hyatt at Olive 8

April 17th, 2009

Elaia spa has opened in the Hyatt at Olive 8, Seattle’s soon-to-be LEED-certified hotel — the first hotel in the city to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

A member of the Green Spa Network, a nonprofit trade organization that promotes sustainable and eco-friendly practices in the spa industry, the 15,000-square-foot spa is committed to energy and water conservation, recycling, waste reduction, and the use of natural and organic products in their services.

Elaia (Greek for olive) features 12 treatment rooms with exquisite lighting that creates a warm, honeyed glow. Each room can accommodate multiple treatments, so there’s no need for guests to shuffle from room to room for their next service. (A good thing, since the spa’s hallway looks right onto the hotel’s parking circle.)

Elaia’s Market Fresh offerings are seasonally changing services that use fresh ingredients sourced from Washington state growers. Current Market Fresh treatments include a lavender mint scrub and a white lavender clay wrap ($120 each). Look forward to a cherry mint scrub and wrap in May.

Other treatments include the Elaia Signature massage, which uses certified organic olive oil from Oregon in a massage that blends Swedish and Thai techniques (60 minutes, $110). During the 75-minute Oxygen Glow facial ($175), vitamin-infused oxygen breathes new life into tired skin.

Careful attention to detail, such as customizable music, is apparent throughout the spa, though I did notice a kink or two to work out; I was assured by the spa manager that the incongruous bottle of Ajax I spied near the nail salon will be replaced by a non-chlorinated, environmentally friendly option.

Elaia’s guests also have access to the hotel’s whirlpool and 65-foot lap pool, which are purified through a saltwater system that eliminates the need for chlorine. You can hear music even underwater, and the pool is surrounded by huge windows that look out onto blossoming trees, reinforcing the feel of an oasis in the middle of the city.

Las Vegas Spa – Eleven Prepared to Open

February 12th, 2009

The much-anticipated Eleven plans to open at Town Square this week. Ever since the shopping mall opened in November 2007, Eleven has been in the building stages with first a March launch, then a Nov. 11 opening slated. But it seems the 20,000-square-foot store is on the brink of becoming a reality.

Inside sits a small retail area that will contain the likes of designers such as Black Halo, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent and T-Bags. “There will be nothing like Eleven in Vegas,” said Nikki Oden, owner of the boutique and spa. “I am literally pulling out all the stops to make it the most decadent, indulgent spa experience you could ever imagine having.”

In addition, the location will include a spa with Eleven’s own organic skin-care line, a deejay booth, butlers on staff and waterfall chandeliers shaped like the curves of a woman. The spa will include a signature brow bar by Damone Roberts.

One treatment room, called Bungalow 69, features only old Hollywood treatments and a jetted bath for two. A private VIP room gives celebs and groups some privacy to indulge in services. And the uber-rich can get to Eleven by landing on the helipad.

The whole place can be rented for events. Mirrors in the makeup bar retract to give the place a more open-air feel when it’s filled with up to 750 guests.

Some of the spa’s treatments include the Champagne and Caviar Facial, Eleven Mink Massages, the Eleven Diamond Manicure and Pedicure and the Flamingo Glo, an exfoliating treatment with a finishing massage.

And world-renowned hairstylist Ken Paves, whose Beverly Hills salon caters to the who’s who of LA, has joined forces with the ElevenSpa Vegas.

Bardessono Luxury Inn & Spa to open in Napa Valley

February 9th, 2009

Destination design firm WATG provided complete architectural design services for Bardessono, a 62-room boutique luxury inn and spa opening this week on a 4.9-acre site in Yountville, California, in the heart of Napa Valley.
Bardessono Hotel Entry at Grand Opening

The inn includes a spa with four treatment rooms, a 75-foot-long rooftop infinity pool, a fine-dining restaurant, and meeting space. The design reflects a blending of the Valley’s agrarian character, the high refinement associated with its wines, and the indoor/outdoor character of local living.

Bardessono Hotel Pool

The project uses solar and geothermal energy, sophisticated energy management systems, sustainable building materials, and organic landscape management practices. The project is pursuing a LEED Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council.

Bardessono Hotel Green Wall

Some of the unique elements of the inn include a lobby without a front desk – guests are greeted in the foyer by the staff; every room has its own courtyard that allows for absolute guest privacy; and spa treatments will be available in every guestroom.

Bardessono Hotel Unit with photovoltaic roofs

“Guests will be able to take their showers outdoors, underneath the stars,” said Susan Frieson, WATG associate and lead architect on the project. “That’s just one of many experiences at Bardessono that will connect people with their environment.”

Some of the sustainable design features of the property include:

• Eighty-two 300-foot-deep geothermal wells to heat and cool guestrooms and to provide hot water.

• 940 solar panels on the buildings’ flat roofs, hidden from view by parapets that produce 200 KW of power.

• Rammed-earth sculptural walls and 100-year-old olive trees.

• Paving stones and sand for the entrance road, to allow water to seep into the soil, and valet parking, which will allow guests to walk – rather than drive – throughout the property.

• Automatically-controlled exterior Venetian blinds to let the sun and heat in early in the day and out later in the day.

• Dual-pane glass, designed to take advantage of natural light while controlling glare and heat gain.

• Fluorescent bulbs and light-emitting diodes. Everything electric in the rooms is on motion-detectors that shut them off when a guest leaves. When they return and put their key in the door, the current go back on.

• Dual-flush toilets and low-flow fixtures that save water.

• Filtered water, which takes the place of bottled water.

• Drought-resistant landscaping and underground emitters for outdoor watering.

• Re-use and treatment of gray and black water for irrigation through Yountville’s water system.

The project is managed by MTM Luxury Lodging and was developed by Phil Sherburne, who also developed Willows Lodge in the Seattle area and Inn of the Spanish Garden in Santa Barbara, CA.

Murad’s Healthy Living Spa and Inclusive Health Center Beaumont Texas Opening

January 30th, 2009

muradTo better serve the needs of its patients, CHRISTUS Hospital – St. Elizabeth has announced that it will celebrate the opening of CHRISTUS Health Living Spa – a Murad Inclusive Health® Center on March 4, 2009.

The innovative, state-of-the-art CHRISTUS day spa is designed to take the spa experience to the next level with individually tailored programs and treatments designed to reduce the rate of cellular aging and apply the Inclusive Health philosophies of world-renowned skincare and healthy living pioneer, Howard Murad, M.D. Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCLA and founder of Murad, Inc. The 3,400-square-foot spa will be located in a newly renovated space on the first level of the Outpatient Pavilion on the St. Elizabeth Campus at 755 N. 11th Street, Beaumont, TX 77702.

Dr. Murad founded the first Murad Inclusive Health Center in Los Angeles as a place to gather an elite team of health, beauty and fitness experts and to train them to use his Science of Cellular Water philosophy to help people take control of the aging process. Using this “inclusive,” multi-disciplinary approach to bring inner health, outer beauty and emotional well-being to each client, the new spa will offer Dr. Murad’s proven science-based services and treatments designed to improve appearance and overall well-being – all under a physician’s supervision.

“Having a full-service elite Murad spa on site gives us the ability to improve our guests’ lifestyles in a variety of ways, “said Mario Mudano, Administrator for CHRISTUS Hospital – St. Elizabeth. “Instead of just having people come see us when they are sick, we are proactively promoting wellness and healthy living.”

Benjamin Beckert, M.D., will serve as the CHRISTUS Health Living Spa’s medical director. Dr. Beckert, a plastic surgeon, has been performing procedures at CHRISTUS Hospital for five years and will oversee all medical services.

“Dr. Beckert has a wealth of experience,” Mudano says. “He gives us the security of knowing that a medical doctor has approved and is supervising all procedures; something that a regular spa doesn’t offer.”

The spa will be staffed with massage therapists, skin care specialists and other personal care experts. All skincare treatments will feature exclusive professional spa products from Murad, designed to enhance appearance by improving skin health at the most fundamental level.

In addition to the full menu of services, ranging form massages, manicures, facials and hair removal treatments to noninvasive face lifts and spray-on tanning, visitors to the spa will also be able to purchase natural cosmetics made of 100 percent crushed minerals. The Murad line of skin care products will also be available for purchase.

CHRISTUS Hospital – St. Elizabeth, a 434-bed Catholic, not-for-profit health care facility in Beaumont, Texas, is the largest hospital between Houston and Baton Rouge. The hospital is the recognized regional leader in outpatient services, cardiology, oncology, neurology, pediatrics, general surgery, birthing, neonatal care, cardiac rehabilitation, imaging, and emergency services, and is designated as a Level III Trauma Center. CHRISTUS Hospital – St. Elizabeth has set the standard for progressive health care in Southeast Texas, and is the largest hospital in the area to be recognized by the Magnet Program through the American Nurses Credentialing Center for providing the highest level of nursing care. The hospital continues to adapt and change to meet the needs of the community, following the values and mission of the founding Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word of Houston and San Antonio–to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.

Murad, Inc. was founded in 1989 by Howard Murad. M.D., one of the world’s foremost authorities on skin health and a pioneer of the clinical skincare movement. All Murad products are based on The Science of Cellular Water™, Dr. Murad’s unified theory of health and aging.

The Murad brand includes 88 consumer products and 45 professional products sold in 45 countries. Murad is the best selling clinical skincare brand at many locations including Sephora and Ulta. Known globally for high performance topical and internal skincare, Murad has grown by producing innovative products that meet the needs of its customers.

Ritz-Carlton Spa Kapalua Hawaii Spa Opening

January 22nd, 2009

This article is broght to you by Spavelous http://www.spavelous.com

Ritz-Carlton Spa, Kapalua, Hawaii

Several months ago Ritz-Carlton finalized a $180 million transformation at its AAA Five-Diamond Kapalua, Hawaii, hotel with the opening of the 17,500-square-foot Ritz-Carlton Spa, Kapalua. The hotel, which has 463 fully-renovated guestrooms, including 107 Residential Suites, is located on the healing waters of Waihua, which the ancient Hawaiians believed was the most pure form of water.

The spa features 15 treatment rooms, with half opening to private outdoor shower gardens, and all with iPod docking stations with pre-programmed music selections and robe warmers. The spa also features two outdoor couples’ hale (cabanas), men’s and women’s relaxation areas with the depiction of lava stone grotto areas, steam rooms, saunas, and whirlpools, and the only coed indoor/outdoor relaxation area in Hawaii with a whirlpool.

The Waihua concept is evidenced by wood panels carved with images of taro leaves and the dry stone river bed design in the entry. The walls are curved, representing water movement, with water walls in select areas. Guests walk through groves of tall bamboo, and Hawaiian artwork is present throughout the public corridors. Basalt stone floors are found in the treatment rooms, and the lockers are made with mahogany wood. Raw natural ingredients of spa treatments, including Hawaiian sea salt, kukui nuts, awapuhi, and ginger, have been placed in alcoves.

The spa offers a range of Hawaiian-based spa treatments, including authentic Lomilomi massage and Hawaiian healing treatments based on relaxation and rejuvenation. Guests may honor Kupuna Kahiko (ancient elders) from the Honokahua burial site by presenting an offering outside their treatment room.

Many of the spa treatments incorporate natural ingredients in the spa products such as pineapple, papaya, kukui oil, coconut, pumpkin, and blueberry. The spa features a range of innovative facials using Murad products and the natural lines of Naturopathica and Eminence, along with Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusions treatments. The spa also offers pregnancy massage treatments using Mama Mio products. The salon offers a full range of hair, manicure, pedicure, and waxing services; treatments for younger guests, such as a Choco Holic Pedicure; and packages for teenagers, including the Bring a Friend Package, which includes a 50-minute Lomilomi Massage or a 50-minute Ritz-Carlton Signature Facial, side by side, followed by a Fabulous Feet Pedicure.

Hotel hopes posh spa hits spots

“Ms. McConville? Ms. McConville? Is there anything I can do for you?”

The holistic massage therapist had just finished working on my feet, and now, before moving on to the knotted muscles in my back, she wanted to know if the room temperature or music volume should be adjusted.

At the Spa at the Mandarin Oriental Boston, the staff pays very special attention to their clients’ well being.

On Tuesday, Boston’s poshest spa – which is located inside the city’s poshest hotel – opens its doors to the public. And last week, I spent more than four hours at the Boylston Street spa, swaddled in an other-worldly luxury, as enthusiastic and excited workers bustled along the polished bamboo floors, eager to make everything just right for incoming guests.

The economic gloom and doom that has cast a dark shadow across so much of American life wasn’t apparent at all.

“I’m so excited,” said spa director Sharon Holtz, a trained massage therapist who helped create some of the spas treatments.

Several Boston spa owners say business is still strong, but a recent stroll through Boston’s South End indicates otherwise. One salon was offering deeply discounted facials, while another announced that its workers no longer accept tips.

While it is true that spas and salons are among the nations fastest growing small businesses, we are living through an economic time that for most Americans is unprecedented.

Even executives at the Mandarin Oriental are stressing the value that comes with a spa visit. After all, an 80-minute Swedish massage can cost as much as $210, but the price includes much more than a singular treatment.

With just a few days to go, Holtz said shes not worried that the economic upheaval will hurt business.
Americans have adopted a European point of view about spas, she said.

People realize that this is part of wellness, she said Friday, in the spas “caf,” a sun-splashed room on the fourth floor of the hotel. The days of seeing a spa as a pampering experience are over.
And in times of great stress, people seek other solace, she said.

People are needing a place to step away from the stressors in life, and relax and regroup, she said. It’s so important.

That remains to be seen.

The journey begins upon entering the Asian-inspired lobby, where guests exchange their street shoes for a cozy pair of slippers and warm tea.  From there, its a short walk, past babbling fountains, to a heat and wet area, which incorporates bathing rituals of several different cultures. There are separate sections for men and women.

Each section contains an expansive steam room with mood-enhancing lighting and a quartz crystal known for its healing powers. The space includes a warm vitality pool, big enough to float in, a fountain of ice chips, and a heated bench for relaxing.

The section also includes a multi-faceted experience shower, where warm waters pour down in a simulated jungle storm. Another option is the more brisk artic mist.

It’s all about preparing the body for the treatment, Holtz said.

Guests are encouraged to spend at least 45 minutes taking to the waters, before receiving a facial, pedicure or hydrotherapy treatment.

Between the bathing area and the treatment rooms, there are several crisply made beds for guests to relax on.

After relaxing and replenishing with fresh fruit and lemon-flavored water, I went on to a private room for the Commonwealth Comforter, a spa treatment designed for Bostonians. The 110-minute, $260 treatment included an chocolate and frankincense exfoliation to prepare my skin for winter.

And sometime after the ginseng-flavored tea, the steam room, and the shoulder massage, I realized that Holtz may be on to something.

I knew that Id be back at the Herald in a few hours, back under those buzzing fluorescent lights and next to the always-ringing telephones, but it all seemed so very far away.
“No,” I told the massage therapist, when I finally realized she was speaking to me. “Everything’s perfect.
