Located in a quaint Victorian house, the Westhampton Day Spa provides an intimate experience led by owners Holly and Joel Torres. The homey atmosphere includes several rooms for massage and facials, as well as nail care, waxing, and body treatments. Each session begins with a personalized consultation and professional skin analysis. Treatments sound good enough to eat with coconut scrubs, fruit enzymes peels, and liquid sugar polishes. While you’re there experiment with an add on such as a lavender hand facial, a mango eye treatment to reduce puffiness and dark circles, or a breast firming treatment where a unique masque boosts elasticity (at least for a while).

The Westhampton Signature Massage is the Pu Pu platter of rubbing where you experience Swedish strokes, aromatherapy, heated basalt stones, and a touch of oriental techniques that encourage your natural healing abilities. Joel is famous for his skill at shiatsu and thai massage.

Realizing you’re never too young to develop good spa skills, they offer Princess Parties for six to eight children who can get a little taste of everything - hair, nails, massage, and facial. They also offer the “First Make-Up” for teens fifteen and under where they teach a light technique to enhance natural beauty. Groups such as bridal parties, corporate retreats, and couples also like to take over the space where they will set a menu of treatments that also includes lunch.

In the summer season they have a satellite location at the Bath and Tennis Hotel at 231 Dune Road in Westhampton Beach where you can get a massage outside and listen to the sounds of the waves or experience a facial in the cabana tent. With the spa package you also get use of the resort’s beach and heated pools. Beware of spontaneous serendipity. They also have a frequent spa-er card where after a series of five facials, massages, or nail treatments, you get the sixth one free. If you’re a snowbird, keep an eye for their new spa in Naples, Florida next year.

Signature Treatment: “Essensa Euro-Stone Facial”

This is better than a giant Valium. Lymphatic drainage massage helps to eliminate toxins and relieve sinus pressure, headaches, eye puffiness, or TMJ. The face, neck, and hands are lightly massaged with heated stones and essential oils. After the cleanse, steam, and exfoliation, the Essensa organic masks, such as the anti-stress rose mask, from France are applied. Heated and chilled stones are applied to key Ayurvedic pressure points and chakras to open and ground energy. Your feet are treated to reflexology to clarify the mind and balance your system. Sounds like a recipe for world peace to me.

Whether you are stepping off the yacht at Long Wharf or the Hampton Jitney bus, your first stop should be the cloistered Style Bar. Located just at the base of Main Street between the favorite local bar and health food store, Style Bar mixes natural health with total decadence. The gals there can fix you up from a manicure and pedicure which will probably last more than some relationships to pre-beach waxing and air brush tanning and even sell you a great beach bag before you walk out the door.

They have numerous manicure and Jacuzzi pedicure chairs where you can add in perky peppermint, cooling cucumber, or hot milk and almond oil. Facials have just as many a la carte options such as an oxygen blast, a vitamin C peel, or a green papaya nutrient mask and can go high tech with micro-dermabrasion, micro facial toning using a micro current to improve skin tone, and foto rejuvenation using light therapy for collagen production. They are also known for their excellent European waxing services. Finish with a blow dry and glazing for your hair and a quick stop at the make-up counter.

At Gurney’s Inn and Spa, situated on the bluffs in Montauk, you can treat your tootsies while gazing out the floor to ceiling windows at the Atlantic Ocean. The spa offers the unusual treat of an indoor filtered sea water swimming pool and men’s and women’s locker rooms that include steam room, sauna, and roman bath. You can even incorporate a work-out in their gym.

With a vast menu of services, ultimate treatments include the Shirodhora Sanctuary Treatment that is an ancient Ayurvedic body treatment for healing and balance. You start with a brush exfoliation then are bathed in Ayurvedic oils. A stream of warm oil is dripped onto the third eye and is massaged into the scalp. Next you are wrapped with warm herb infused towels and when you emerge and take a quick shower, are finished with a rose water spray.

Or how about the couples Peppermint Sea Plunge where you start with a seaweed toning gel exfoliation then immerse yourself in a therapeutic seawater massage in the European Thalasso tub. Next you and yours truly bodies’ are wrapped in a cool peppermint and seawater wrap. Massages include amma therapy, polarity, cranio sacral, trager, and thai where the energy flows in the body are balanced through various pressure points and massage techniques. You have a range of facials to choose from as well as a full-service beauty salon. But the best part is going down and running your toes through the sand, just not if your pedicure-with-a-view polish is still wet.

Note that their spa lobby is undergoing renovation. There is a $25 charge on top of the price of the treatment for the use of the spa facilities. There is also an 18 percent gratuity charge for staff, but this does not include a tip for your therapist.
