Manassas VA Day Spa and Salon Ten Dollar Haircut

March 1st, 2009

Day spa offers $10 haircuts for a cause

Haircuts for first-time customers at Tranquility Day Spa and Salon will cost a mere $10 in March.

Usually haircuts at the spas at 15125 Washington St., Suite 304 in Haymarket and at 10360 Portsmouth Road in Manassas average $60.
Hair coloring for first-time customers will be $50.

All of the proceeds will go to Securing Emergency Resources through Volunteer Efforts, a local charity that serves the homeless.

Gloria Harding, co-owner of the spas, said the economy drove her to offer the deals.

“In light of the economic situation that we’re in here, I wanted to find a way that I could give back to the community and also help our business grow at the same time,” Harding said.

Harding chose to help SERVE because of what SERVE does.

“We have a personal relationship with SERVE. They have a wonderful program there and they help feed and clothe people who are here locally,” Harding said. “We’re a local business and we want to help people who are are in our neighborhood.”

The offer also gives people who can’t afford services the chance to visit the spas that have been recognized by Washingtonian and Northern Virginia magazines as two of the top spas in the area.

“There are a lot of people in the community who would love to come and have services at Tranquility, but maybe they can’t afford it,” Harding said. “People love to spend money on things that make them look and feel better and at the same time help a good cause. It’s a great combo.”

Harding has never tried anything like the $10 haircut offer before, so she doesn’t know how busy the spas will get.

“I’m stepping out on faith,” she said.

Harding also encouraged other companies in the area to remember local charities.

“I cannot say enough about how important that is. Some times I think local business owners get distracted with wanting to help lots of different organizations when really we’ve got to take care of our people right here at home first,” Harding said.

Walk-ins and appointments will be accepted.

Pink Ribbon Spa Day Head to Toe Day Spa North Carolina

February 17th, 2009

The folks with afternoon appointments at Head To Toe Day Spa on Feb. 22 will get more than just the free services they signed up for.

WANT TO PARTICIPATE?

WHAT: 12th annual Pink Ribbon Spa Day for people who have undergone cancer treatment within the past year.
WHEN: Noon-5 p.m. Feb. 22
WHERE: Head To Toe Day Spa, 1970 Eastwood Road in Lumina Commons
COST: Free, if you have undergone treatment for cancer within the past year
TO REGISTER: Call Head To Toe Day Spa at 256-3370

Heartfelt support and a caring touch will accompany the beauty treatments or massages for cancer patients who participate in the 12th annual Pink Ribbon Spa Day.

As Helen Strickland, a participant in last year’s Spa Day, put it, “I could really feel the energy from the lady who did the massage. I felt like she was praying for me.”

Head To Toe will close its facility to the public from noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 22 and open it to people who have undergone cancer treatments within the past year. Participants may select any one of the following: manicure, pedicure, facial, therapeutic massage, makeup application or scalp treatment followed by a shampoo and styling. Or they can opt for a life coaching session with Ali Barnard, a graduate of iPEC Life Training school.

They will be worked on and taken care of by the Head To Toe Day Spa staff, who will volunteer time and services.

Strickland also pointed out that another real benefit of the day is the chance to meet other women who have gone through cancer treatment, hear their stories and get to know them.

“There is a camaraderie among us,” she said.

The Pink Ribbon Spa Day was conceived by Barnard and Lynn Gibson, Head To Toe Day Spa co-owner along with her sister, Lexanne Bryan. Barnard and Gibson came up with the idea in 1998 and have held this special day every year since.

The day has a personal meaning for Barnard, as she is a cancer survivor, although she refuses to use that term. She says, “I don’t consider myself a survivor because I never thought of myself as being in a war. I prefer to think of myself as a work-in-progress.”

On that first Spa Day in 1998, 35 women participated. Last year, the spa had 90 reservations, and organizers anticipate at least that many this year.

Vanessa James, a staff member who has volunteered at every Pink Ribbon Spa Day, said there is “good, positive energy all day long.” When asked which services are the most popular, she said the pedicure, facials and massage top the list. But that is probably because, as Strickland jokingly pointed out, “Not too many of us need a haircut!” All agreed that the women who participate have an upbeat, positive attitude. And, obviously, a good sense of humor.

In addition to their free service, the participants will also enjoy a catered lunch, courtesy of Tommy Mills and Little Pond Caterers.

Massage event to be held at Trilogy Spa

Massage therapists are lending their hands to Red Bluff in celebration of the award-winning national event, EveryBody Deserves a Massage Week, from Sunday, July 20, to Saturday, July 26, at Trilogy Spa, 440 Antelope Blvd.
The event is sponsored by ABMP, the nation’s largest massage membership association.

The event will help raise funds for the victims of the north state fires.
Therapists will be available at Trilogy on Monday, July 21 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a special free chair massage event, or ask for the Fire Special at any time during that week, and Trilogy will give $10 from each treatment to the fire victims.

These professionals join ABMP volunteers nationwide in an educational public service announcement to promote the many benefits of massage therapy.
The use of massage therapy has boomed in the last two decades. Massage has proven health benefits, such as effectiveness in treating persistent back and neck pain and arthritis pain, as well as strengthening the immune system. It also reduces symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.

ABMP members meet state licensing and educational requirements, as well as adhering to ABMP code of ethics.
