Stevenswood Spa Resort Launches ‘Recession Buster’ Gift Card
Two-Night Offer Saves Guests 40 to 60 Percent on Stay

Officials of Stevenswood Spa Resort, one of the nation’s leading spa resorts dedicated to creating a more eco-friendly guest experience, today announced the launch of its

“Recession Buster” gift card. Retailing for $299, the promotion provides savings of approximately 40 to 60 percent from the hotel’s rack rate for a two-night stay. The cards are available at Safeway, CVS, Walgreens and other retail stores regionally, with rollout plans to include nationwide Safeway stores, Vons, Pavillions, Randalls, Dominick’s, Genuardi’s, Carrs, Pak ‘n Save Foods and Tom Thumb.

“Not only is Stevenswood the first spa resort to offer such a gift card, we also are the highest value card ever to be displayed,” said Dean Norman, Stevenswood vice president of strategic alliances. “For today’s savvy traveler, it’s not a question of cost so much as it is of overall value. Particularly in today’s stagnant economy,

Stevenswood is aware of the obstacles facing many travelers. We believe this value-added gift card goes a long way in alleviating those concerns by providing a superior guest experience at an incredibly discounted price.”

The resort has an initial distribution of 45,000 cards at regional stores and on-line. In the event of over-demand, Stevenswood has partnered with neighboring properties to deal with potential guest overflow, ensuring that all guest needs will be met. The resort also plans to market the card to corporations and large employers, offering private branding/customization as requested.

Dean Norman also noted that a recent study by the National Retail Federation found that gift cards ranked among the top 10 most wanted gifts nationwide. “Gift cards today account for approximately $30 billion in annual gift spending. They allow shoppers to provide thoughtful, meaningful gifts to loved ones while still providing recipients with a certain amount of leeway in how the money is spent specifically. A stay at one of the nation’s leading resorts is an ideal fit for this type of offer.”
Stevenswood Spa Resort is an idyllic retreat on Northern California’s Mendocino Coast.

Contemporary and secluded, this tranquil resort offers a gracious respite for travelers and locals alike. Located two minutes south of the town of Mendocino in Little River, this AAA Four-Diamond property is surrounded on three sides by State Park, and is a short walk to the Pacific Ocean. Intimate by design, elegant by nature, the lodge features luxury suites, the acclaimed Restaurant at Stevenswood, and the Five-Star Indigo Eco|Spa. A private botanical garden, Jacuzzi hot tub spas, and landscaped grounds enhance the breathtaking setting, with a backdrop of Redwood groves and ocean meadows.

Spa Gift Certificate Disaster

photo_gift_certificate.jpg

Dear Fixer:

My mom bought multiple gift certificates from Maurice Alan Salon and Day Spa, which she gave as gifts to my sisters and me and other relatives. At Christmas alone she spent at least $500.

My sister recently tried to set up an appointment. She couldn’t get through by telephone - the message said the mailbox was full - so she drove over there, and it was completely empty. I know of at least five gift certificates that my mom bought that were never used.

Spa Sold - What happens to Your Gift Certificates?

Unfortunately, Once again I have to write about a spa that has closed or in this case was sold and a client is stuck with no way to redeem their spa gift certificate!

A spa gift card or spa gift certificate is a wonderful gift.  However, please purchase a gift card that can be used in multiple locations in your area.  This is why Spavelous created the Spavelous Spa Gift Card.  It is a spa gift card that is good at any spa that accepts VISA.  If the spa you wanted to use the spa gift card at closes, no problem…just go to another spa or salon that accepts VISA.  It is that easy.

Here is the story from Tampa Florida.

Action: Spa’s sale leaves gift certificate holder in limbo

Terms of spa’s sale determine who is liable for gift certificate

Q: I hope you can help me.

Last Christmas, my husband bought me a $200 gift certificate to A Bella Spa in Homosassa. It was purchased Dec. 11.

The same day, the spa was sold. My husband was never informed.

I phoned in January to make an appointment but only got an answering machine. I phoned every week until April, when I drove by. A sign stated it was closed for renovations.

On April 22, my husband went down and spoke to “Betty.” She told him there were new owners but they would accept the gift certificate. She said I should call to make arrangements.

I phoned that afternoon and was told the spa couldn’t offer all the services on the gift certificate, but they were hiring new people and would be able to soon.

I phoned again in July and this time I was told the new owners would not accept the gift certificate and there were signs all over stating this. How could I know that when I still hadn’t been able to make an appointment?

On July 27, I called and spoke to the new owner and the manager to no avail.

Visiting a spa is a special treat for me. I only get to do it once a year. At this point, I just want my money back.

Nina Castilli Hyer

A: Oasis Bella Hotel general manager Mit Shah said the spa closed Aug. 26, the day before we spoke. Despite having sent him your entire file, he asked repeatedly what you wanted.

The hotel and gym portions of the business are still operating and Shah said he’d credit you a membership for the equivalent of your gift certificate or hotel accommodations. But nothing more.

Contact him at the hotel if you’re interested.

When a business is sold, the new owner is only obligated to honor gift certificates if it has purchased the company’s assets and liabilities. A gift certificate is considered a liability.

So, if the new owners didn’t purchase A Bella’s liabilities, you may have a case against its original owners, according to Sandi Copes at the Florida Attorney General’s office.

To make a determination, you’d need to learn the terms of the sale.

Pamper your Man - Spas for Men - Father’s Day Spa Gift Cards

Father__s_Day_Gift_Cards_Spa_Gift_Certificate_Golf_Gift_Card.png

Beer for the spa guy proves massages not just a “Sex In The City” thing

Strolling up to the counter for the spa at Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort, the attendant spoke up before I could say a word. “Gift card?” she more assumed than asked, ready to show me all the different spa packages she thought I’d be looking into for my wife or mother.

When I quickly replied that no, I was there for a massage treatment for myself, thank you very much, she sort of shrugged. “Sorry. Most guys we see are getting the gift cards.”

Which is one of the problems with the golf destination world these days. You’re seeing more lavish lush spas often steps away from great resort golf courses and there’s still not nearly enough male golfers in them. Oh sure, if you talk to the spa directors or resort general managers they’ll tell you tales about guys embracing the spa. It seems like the husband of every hotel PR woman alive really enjoys pedicures. Imagine that!

Then, you roll into the spa and the good-looking, college-aged girl behind the counter - and one of the great underrated things in spa-dom is just how fine the counter babes usually are - asks how much you want to spend on a gift card.

Hogwash! Pamper yourself, man, pamper yourself. Day Spas just aren’t for the metrosexuals among us (you know, those dudes who talk just a little too enthusiastically about golf fashion, the guys who will go see “Sex In the City” by themselves).

Sure, there’s likely going to be a lot of lavender in that spa - not to mention music only Kenny G could love. But many golf resort spas are now thankfully embracing their manlier side. Including Bear Mountain, a place in the mountains outside Victoria, Vancouver Island that has a Jack Nicklaus course that will rough you up with the gusto of Paulie Walnuts.

That’s because spas are embracing beer. Yes, the fuel of Homer Simpson is elbowing its way into the most purposefully soothing places on earth. Bear Mountain’s spa features a golfer-geared treatment where a beer is part of the therapy.

Basically, you drink an amazingly tall glass of beer as a massage therapist soaks and works over your feet and lower legs.

Beer’s rapidly becoming the norm in spas too. At the excellent Coeur d’Alene Resort in Northern Idaho - home to the famous floating island green - they take your beer request when you check into the men’s locker room at the spa.

There’s nothing like lounging around in a bathrobe drinking beer while your waiting for a masseuse to pamper you. Forget that football tailgating. This is man’s man prep work. Gift card? Not a chance. Unless it’s for yourself.

Father’s Day Best Gift Ideas - From TV’s to Spa Gift Cards

Gift ideas for Dad: For some, a trip to the hardware store approximates nirvana

Ditch the socks and ties this Father’s Day and get that special Dad in your life something he’ll appreciate.

There’s still a week left before Father’s Day, and whether he’s a tech head, athlete or handyman, there are plenty of options for gifts this year.

New tools are the obvious choice for Mike Blas, who says he rarely asks for anything on Father’s Day beyond a family barbecue. This year, he says, he hopes to add a power dome — a portable power station — to add to his collection of tools.

“It’s just something I can have at the ranch and I don’t have to turn my pickup on to plug my cell phone or have light,” he says. “Either way, my family always gets me something I end up using.”

If you don’t know what to get Dad for Father’s Day, Blas says a gift certificate or a trip to his personal favorite weekend spots, Benson’s and the Home Depot are both winners.

“Most men will be fine with that,” the father of three says. “Then we get to pick our own gift.”

Electronics-wise, flat screen TVs are the big-ticket items this year for dads.

Albert Cayanan, owner of ABC Electronix, says bigger is better when it comes to flat-screen TVs, whether they’re plasma or LCDs.

It’s a good time to upgrade, too, because all full-power broadcast stations will be required to convert to a digital format as required by the Federal Communications Commission. On top of that, prices for flat-panel TVs have dropped significantly over the last couple of years, with the changing technology. Conventional TVs with tubes are out, Cayanan says, and LCD, plasma and rear projection TVs are in.

“Flat screen TVs are going to be on everybody’s wish list,” he says. “There are pros and cons to each one — LC’s are thinner and lighter and their power consumption is less. You get a better picture response from plasmas because you get a deeper black.”

New flat panel TV’s can run anywhere from a couple hundred bucks to several thousands, depending on the size.

You may want to get Dad off the couch for his Father’s Day gift and treat him to a core strengthening workout at the Hangin’ High indoor rock climbing gym in Tamuning.

Families can get a workout together at the indoor rock climbing gym. With gift certificates available and a possible special planned for Dad’s on the Monday evening after Father’s Day, Hangin’ High owner Boni Garrido says its a gift that can’t be missed.

“A lot of Dads came in and bought their wives passes,” she says. “They love it and they bring the kids in. It’s a family activity.”

After a long week at the office, time at the gym or even hours spent maintaining the yard, you may want to consider treating Dad to a day at the spa.

Many men enjoy aromatherapy, foot baths and facials at a spa, it is the perfect Father’s Day gift for any hard-working dad, says Ron Romero, spa director of Jiivana Spa for Wellbeing at the Pacific Island’s Club.

About half the clientele at Jiivana are men, Romero says, everyone from triathletes to businessmen.

“We’re trying to educate people that as much as you exercise, you need to invest in restoring and resting,” Romero says. “It’s all part of the bigger picture of wellness.”

For Dads who fear the frills, Romero says, they’re all there for a reason — necessary to unwind and allow your body to accept the full experience. All packages, including the signature Jiivana Journey, start with a 15-minute foot bath and aromatherapy.

Mother’s Day - Spa Gift Cards & Flowers Moms #1 Gift this year

Mother’s Day

This article is brought to you by Spavelous.com.

http://www.spavelous.com

According to IBISWorld, Inc., one of the nation’s most respected independent publishers of business intelligence research about 86 percent of Americans will be celebrating Mother’s Day on May 11 this year, with children expected to spend more than $18 billion on spoiling their mothers.

And while gift ideas from toasters to towel sets are filling the catalogues, IBISWorld analysts say greeting cards and flowers will remain the primary gifts of choice this Mother’s Day, followed by gift cards, jewelry, pamper packs, and a well earned break from the kitchen.

Top Mother’s Day Gift Picks

Flowers — A traditional favorite, Americans are expected to spend $2.61 billion on a bunch of blooms for mom this Mother’s Day. In addition to carnations, chrysanthemums, and lilies, other popular choices will include orchids, roses, and Spring-time tulips.

Greeting Cards — While e-cards and homemade cards are becoming increasingly popular, IBISWorld predicts the greeting card sector will generate close to $68 million in sales from Mother’s Day spending this year, with Hallmark Cards, Inc., being the number one brand of choice.

mothers-day-spa-gift-certificates-spa-gift-cards.png

Gift Cards — As Americans become increasingly short on time, IBISWorld has identified gift cards as a sector set for growth this year — largely fueled by the convenience of the Internet.

Note with Spavelous Spa Gift Cards, you may also send a complimentary e-card!

“Gift cards take the pressure off the giver, and allow the receiver a guilt free shopping spree,” said Mr George Van Horn, senior analyst for IBISWorld, Inc. “And with an increasing number, and greater variety of stores offering this option, gift certificates are forecast to account for $1.94 billion of Mother’s Day spending this year, with the segment set to boom in the coming years.”

Jewelry - IBISWorld is forecasting Mother’s Day will generate 7.8 percent of the jewelry industry’s annual revenue in 2008, with spending expected to reach $2.41 billion. The most popular choices for mom’s under the age of 25 are sterling silver pieces, with moms aged between 26 and 49 preferring quality rings and earrings, and mom’s aged over 50 favoring more traditional items such as pearls.

Personal Services and Pamper Packages - Incorporating all things indulgent, personal services and pamper packages, including spa treatments, facials, and massages are expected to be a big hit this Mother’s Day, with spending on this sector expected to reach $1.53 billion.

Giving Mom the Night Off - Whether it’s take-away at home, lunch at a cafe, or dinner at a family friendly restaurant, Mother’s Day will give many moms a break away from the kitchen. American’s are expected to spend close to $3.51 billion on dining out this year, with brunch and dinner being the most popular dining out options.

Another trend noted by IBISWorld this year is a move away from the purchase of ‘functional’ items such as kitchen and electrical appliances. “This Mother’s Day is all about indulgent items,” said Mr. Van Horn. “So while a foot spa may still feature, a food processor is definitely off the list.”
