‘Exercise for Everyone’ Weekend
Our schedule this weekend will include fun and gentle exercise classes, led by instructors Victoria Rochkind and Barbara Greenberg who are trained and certified by the Arthritis Foundation. You will learn exercises to improve your daily functioning, decrease joint pain and stiffness and increase flexibility, range of motion, balance, strength and stamina. You can do the exercises standing or sitting in a chair. For our strength-training classes, we utilize therabands and/or light weights and we’ll show you how to use your own body as resistance, too. These exercises help strengthen muscles and bones, among other benefits.
In addition, we are happy to offer our Tai Chi for Health program, designed by an internationally known expert (Dr. Paul Lam of Australia) to help manage arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes and back pain. For many people, tai chi improves balance, daily functioning and overall health and promotes calmness and relaxation. Therapeutic water exercises will round out the weekend. You will learn gentle, effective movements to increase flexibility, endurance and strength and decrease pain and stiffness. Exercising in water puts less strain on the joints and people who are older, overweight or have arthritis or other joint/muscle issues especially appreciate aquatic exercises.
