Sleepless in the USA

About 70 million Americans suffer from a sleep disorder, according to NIH’s (National Institute of Health) National Center on Sleep Disorders Research. In addition, nearly 70% of American women reports sleep problems at least some nights, according to a poll commissioned by the National Sleep Foundation.  With all of these restless sleepers, do spas hold the sleep solution?

In 1995, Canyon Ranch pioneered the field of a spa setting up a physician-led sleep institute with their sleep lab at their Tucson, Arizona Resort.  Now, other spas have followed suit offering a variety of sleep solutions.  The Pritikin Longevity Center and Spa, and Red Mountain Spa are science-based.  The physicians at Pritikin have established a Sleep Services Program that identifies, diagnoses, and treats sleep disorders, particularly a serious one called obstructive sleep apnea. They offer a full course of sleep medicine and lab testing.  Mexico’s Rancho la Puerta, Connecticut’s Mayflower Inn and Spa and Arizona’s Miraval conduct programs for establishing proper sleep habits and encouraging relaxation through atmospherically calming rooms. Yelo, in New York City is devoted to the strategically efficient “cat nap”.   While other spas have introduced services which will assist in your relaxation and perhaps later induce sleep or contribute to a sleep rituals.

This week Spavelous’ “Now You Are in They Know” will help you to sleep better.
